Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed is reportedly set to auction the bat he used in the 2017 Champions Trophy to raise funds for the ongoing coronavirus crisis in his country.

Cricket competitions around the world have been halted as a result of the deadly virus that had affected over 800,000 people worldwide. The 5th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was called off just before the semi-final round, in a bid to control the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Reportedly, funds raised from Sarfaraz Ahmed’s bat will be utilized to help athletes and the groundstaff overcome their financial issues that might have propped up owing to the outbreak of the virus.

Pakistan famously emerged as the winners of the 2017 Champions Trophy after beating arch-rivals India by a massive 180-run margin on the back of a fine century from Fakhar Zaman

Sarfaraz got a chance to bat only twice in the tournament. The then skipper scored 76 runs, including an important 79-ball 61* in the winning game against Sri Lanka.

The 32-year-old recently led 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators in the inconclusive 2020 edition. The Gladiators had a dismal campaign this time around, failing to make it to the knockout round for the first time in the competition’s history.

According to reports, there is a chance that the semifinals and final of PSL 2020 could be held in November this year.
