Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar is one of the many cricketing personalities who have been working tirelessly on social media to spread awareness about the COVID-19 crisis.

The Coronavirus pandemic has left just about the entire world in turmoil. The effect of this virus has been so deadly, that it has not even spared global superpowers like the United States of America.

Shoaib Akhtar’s recent tweet with regards to the virus signals that the outbreak might be more of a financial struggle than a health crisis.

In the wake of the dangerously fast spread of the disease, multiple sporting events were cancelled throughout the world. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) was called off just before its semi-final stage, whilst its Indian counterpart – the IPL is most likely to get cancelled too.

As the world fights to try and stop what might arguably go down as the deadliest pandemic in human history, Shoaib Akhtar’s judgement may not be too inaccurate afterall.

This is what Akhtar’s tweeted:

“This Coronavirus pandemic is going to leave more people bankrupt than dead.”

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the world has entered a period of recession during which millions might be rendered jobless. Moreover, some researchers predict things could get worse than they did back in 2008.

According to a report released by the United Nations, the world economy may incur a massive loss of trillions of global income. With Pakistan already having 1865 out of over 700000 global coronavirus cases, the Federal government has approved a relief package of Rs. 1200-billion for damage control. Reportedly, a Rs 100-billion fund has also been set up by the authorities to deal with the aftereffects of COVID-19.
